Cinema Incentive Scheme

The Cinema Incentive Scheme encourages cinemas to maintain and increase the number of British, independent and specialised film screenings they show as part of their core annual programme.

By providing financial backing to cinemas that screen these films the scheme promotes creative risk taking and increases the offer for audiences.

Who can apply?

The scheme is open to all full and part-time cinemas within the South East Region (Berkshire, Sussex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire and Surrey) who meet the eligibility criteria. Entry to the scheme is based on 2015 screening and educational activity.

Final awards are based on activity from September 2016 – February 2017. Cinemas will receive points according to the number of British, independent and specialised screenings shown during that period.

Tier 1 requires a minimum of 300 screenings per year with at least 50% being British, independent or specialised (BIS).

Tier 2 requires a minimum of 120 screenings each year with 50% being British, independent or specialised (BIS).

How does it work?

You provide us with your screening and educational data for 1 January – 31 December 2015. If you meet the eligibility criteria above you will be entered into the scheme and provided with an indicative award amount.

You provide us with your screening data an educational activity for January 2016 – February 2017 and for the pilot period of the scheme (September 2016 – February 2017), we would then award points for the screening of British, independent and specialised films over the agreed 50% threshold. We will convert the points awarded into a FHSE cash award.

In addition to data sharing we will be bringing all the Cinema Incentive Scheme venues together for programming and marketing meetings twice in the next seven months to share intelligence and develop networking.
