Black Star, a season of 10 films selected by BFI , BFI Film Audience Network and ICO, recognises, promotes and celebrates the range, versatility and power of black actors.
The season takes place October – December 2016 at cinemas nationwide, on BFI Player, on DVD and at BFI Southbank.
There will also be two national moments called Hip Hop Weekend (4th – 6th November) and Comedy Weekend (2nd – 4th December).
NEWS UPDATE 2 NOVEMBER 2016: LICENSING APPLICATION EXTENDED
There’s still time to apply for screening licences at preferential rates from the Independent Cinema Office (ICO) for BFI Black Star activity. You can book any of the titles in the ICO’s Black Star Tour Film Menu as long your planned event will take place by the end of February 2017. All film bookings must be confirmed by Friday 16 December 2016.
If you’ve already booked a #BFIBlackStar screening at your venue, access the marketing pack containing stills, GIFs, social media copy, Spotify playlists and lots more, to help promote your event.

Support for Hub members – DEADLINE EXTENDED
You can apply for a Film Hub bursary to help you grow your audiences for these films. Carmen Jones, Nothing But a Man, To Sleep with Anger and The Proud Valley are all available on subsidised discounted terms.
Film Hub members can also apply for additional support (up to £200) to help promote your screening. A £200 flat fee is available for targeted marketing support aimed towards reaching new audiences for these films. The deadline for submission is every Monday and will be assessed on a weekly basis up until 12 noon on Monday 28 November 2016.
