Wild Side

Tuesday 15 March at St Nicholas Church
£5 / £3 conc. Doors & Wine Bar open 7pm, Event starts 7.30pm

Eyes Wide Open Cinema, Brighton’s queer film strand, is teaming up with Fabrica for their Hear Me, See Me series to bring you Sébastien Lifshitz’s 2004 drama Wild Side (cert. 18, 1hr 33mins).
Stéphanie is a French sex worker who has to travel from Paris to her small hometown where her terminally-ill mother is in need of her care. At home, Stéphanie must face the haunting memories of her childhood and the past she left behind.

‘Michelin’s casting allows her to move well beyond the usual clichés that established characters as trans, and lifts Wild Side into a subtly defiant piece of poetry.’ – Juliet Jacques

Wild Side is a culturally significant forgotten gem; an exquisite arthouse feature and one of the few films to cast a transgender actress (Stéphanie Michelin) in a transgender role.
